Divisional tennis recap from Coach Dufresne:
Divisional tennis is in the books, and what a tournament it was.
Both the girls and boys teams took second place overall. We brought home both singles championships, as Ciara Hanley and Andy Purcell ran the table at the tournament. Both Colin Hanley and Janessa Chaplin took fourth in the singles draw. Finn Dufresne and Jason Chaplin took second place in boys doubles. Gwen Wolfe and Emma Hollingsworth took third place in girls doubles. Those eight athletes will head to the state tournament in Missoula next Thursday.
Beyond the successes on the court, what will resonate most with me (as it has all year) is comradery and the character of this team.
After a grueling first day, where play began at 9:00 AM and ended after 7:00 PM, the bus overheated, and the players' ride home was delayed. The school was quick to send another bus, but the team had to wait for its arrival in the parking lot. Despite the setback, spirits were high, and a game of parking lot tennis broke out where players served as the net.
Day two began with a downpour, and we arrived to soaking wet courts. It was the Hamilton players who were first to pick up a squeegee or roller, and they worked for an hour to clear the courts of water so play could begin as early as possible.
I was also thoroughly impressed with the attitude of the players after losses, especially those that meant elimination from the tournament. After processing the disappointment for a bit, their attention quickly turned to those still in the tournament, as they watched and cheered them on. Multiple players who were eliminated on day one, returned on day two to help will their teammates to victory.
A team is collective, always. We will celebrate those athletes who advanced, and rightly so, as they have certainly earned our praise. I am also so thankful for those who didn't advance, but showed up every day in practice to work hard and push their teammates. Without each other, none of the successes are possible.
I also want to take a moment to thank Patrick Hanley and Christina Weidkamp. Their time, knowledge, patience and care for the team were immeasurable. I couldn't ask for a better coaching staff.
Best of luck to those attending state, and many thanks for every player on this team this year. It has been a magical ride.

Hamilton Bronc Baseball won 12-6 over Belgrade! Congratulations!!!!
