Here's a recap from Ms. Haflich on the Classroom Without Walls (CWW) Field Trip to the Jocko River Trout Hatchery and Saw-Whet Owl Banding:
On Wednesday, the CWW class headed north to learn about rainbow trout and saw-whet owls. We spent the afternoon touring the Jocko River Trout Hatchery in Arlee. That night, we met with biologists from the Owl Research Institute in Polson to observe methods used to capture and band saw-whet owls. With flashlights and headlamps, students learned about owl biology and identification, research methods, and dissected owl pellets while we waited for owls. The excitement started around 10pm when we caught our first saw-whet owl, followed by two more owls shortly after. We had an amazing time and are so appreciative of the Owl Research Institute for sharing this special experience with us. Thank you SFGRF and HHS FFE for funding this unique field trip.

The HHS Lady Bronc volleyball team is playing at home today against Dillon! JV is starting shortly, and Varsity plays at 4PM! They're also hosting a Colors of Cancer bake sale with some delicious looking treats! Make sure you come out to support the team and a great cause! Go Broncs!!

HHS Parents: We realize there has been some confusion on some of your Infinite Campus Portals. If your student is enrolled in a Polytech-eligible class (dual credit or likewise), those classes have now been rolled over into our other Infinite Campus system. Please note, on the top of your IC app, you should be able to toggle back and forth from HHS to Bitterroot Polytech HHS. This may require refreshing your IC app. Thanks so much for your patience during this transition!

HHS Families: Just a reminder that tomorrow (Friday, October 11) is a Golden Opportunity (GO) Day! If your student is required to attend, you will have received a letter in the mail letting you know. The letter includes the class(es) he/she is required to attend. If your student is not required to attend, he/she is still very welcome to attend school tomorrow. All AP and Dual Enrollment students are expected to attend GO Day. For more information, you can visit:
https://www.hsd3.org/o/hhs/page/hhs-go-day

On Wednesday, HHS Classroom Without Walls (CWW) students spent the day on the river learning how to fly fish. Thanks to Ravalli County Fish & Wildlife Association and Bitterroot Trout Unlimited for providing the location and the casting instructors. We had several volunteers from these organizations who gave up their time to teach our students. Mr. Carver, Mr. Haflich, Ms. Fett, and Nicole Ballard also attended the field trip, teaching students the basics of fly fishing and how to read the water. After a morning of fishing, Mr. Haflich grilled burgers for students and instructors. Students then returned to the river for afternoon fishing. Among a few rainbow trout and whitefish, students also saw a bull elk, a mink, and several frogs. Thank you Stock Farm Greater Ravalli Foundation and HHS FFE for funding our field trips and making these experiences possible for our students.

Congrats to the HHS volleyball team on their 3-0 win at Butte Central (25-7, 25-13, 25-13)! Their next game will be at home against Corvallis on Thurs, Oct 3 (Frosh @ 4:15PM, JV @ 5:45PM, Varsity @ 7:15PM). Come out and support our Lady Broncs!
